My initial build test was in stable, and the problem do not occur when
building in unstable. Perhaps some build dependency need to be
versioned?
In unstable I used debhelper 10.2.2, dh-python 2.20160818, python
2.7.11-2 and python-setuptools 28.

I did not see the email you are referring to, it only went to the Debian
bug tracker, so I have not looked at it so far. I just checked it out
and it look good to me. But when I try to build it I got this
