I disagree... empty alt tags are MORE evil than no alt tag at all.
With company logo or swirl you *know* what the image would have been and
you *know* it carries nothing useful/no reason to try to get it via some other
means because there might be some important or intersting information on it.

Well, in the process of setting up my web crawler to search Debian's pages for
bad links, I came across one on the main page:
