such a pure port would be the easiest thing to support ..

AFAIK the pure 64bit port is ready to go (waiting for inclusion). Stating
that it is "of little use" discredits itself. And "would be" suggest
future, which is IMHO incorrect (except for aceptance into the main
archive).

Furthermore the
