Hi , the problem you had can comes from /etc/hosts strange
configuration that was done by recent debian installers.
The problem has nothing to do with X (which just ask debian to
resolves hostname). First could you do a few tests ? Then we may
be able to track it down to a network related package u

Intel 810 Xfree driver needs intel_agp to be loaded (or compiled
in the kernel, but debian official kernel compile it as a
module).
