I think I'm hitting the same bug. Up until a week ago or so, my
external display was working fine at native res of 1680x1050. I would
use the following command to activate it:
xrandr --output VGA-0 --auto
Then I updated to version 6.9.0 and the next time I started X I only
had a resolution of 12

I testet OpenGL by playing various OpenGL games today. One of them
(planetpenguin-racer) even supported my Xorg resolution (1920x1080) in
full screen.
Well, however, none of the games made the system freeze.
Only elisa still does.
Are there any other suggestions for GL tests?
