definitely looks like a nasty bug somewhere in X7.1. Probably in
xserver-xorg-video-mga, possibly in xserver-xorg-core.
If you need anything more from me to help track this down, please
don't hestitate to ask. I'm more than willing to re-break my system

I'm using an MGA G400, and with the new update to xorg 7.1, my screen
suddenly stopped working. I can switch to the console at vt1, and the
screen comes back. And X appears to be running fine (all the processes
look ok, and I can hear

So, anyway, I'm pretty sure that Andreas has the right solution. It
matches everything I know about the problem. We'll know for sure
after my next upload hits the autobuilders. :)
