just a "me, too" report. Upgrading -> dead, downgrading -> works,
reliable.
It seems to me that the xserver is probing the device two times, once
it detects it properly, the second time there is a

I see the same behavour with the latest upload to unstable. It breaks
the mousepad in a serious way, side scrolling does not work anymore.
I tried with both auto-dev (got the same error message as the OP), and
tel driver, the synaptics driver, everything, so that I don't know
what to blame or not.
I guess I have now adjusted the values and it works as expected,
guess we can close the bug.
