I may be wrong about the underscores and the 800. It went by real quick. There
was something else written underneath it I didn't catch.
Can I do something useful, like always run 'x' in debugging mode or check other

Hi, a recent batch of updates to xorg made me hope that this bug was done for,
but alas, I've just lost some work for the first time after 'x' crashed
irrecoverably yet again. It had been at least 5 days since a crash. I believe
other than Writer the only thing open was firefox,
Same behaviour described, same errors in xorg.og. Can bug 491230 be considered a

better idea of what triggers it.
Is there a way to make X.Org save more that 1 old version of its logs?
Cheers,

I've already made the recommended change. Knowing if it works isn't too hard,

Then it suddenly started working normally for awhile on Saturday.
After rebooting that time, it turned into the black rectangles as
in the JPG included in this thread. To confirm that my hardware
had not glitched, I installed another fresh testing image onto

Everything works fine now after the apt-get --reinstall!

The 'strace' output is attached.

That ACER notebook has a quite primitive BIOS, with almost no user
configurations
allowed, (and indeed it does not support ACPI suspend as well); I looked for a
while,
