Package: xbase-clients
Version: 4.2.1-12.1
Severity: normal

At line 469 in the preinst script is the following:

        if [ -L /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc -a $(readlink /etc/X11/xinitrc)= ....

This is causing a syntax error at install time:

        /var/lib/dpkg/tmp.ci/preinst: line 469: [: too many arguments

I believe the line should read:

        if [ -L /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc -a $(readlink /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc)=
....

Thanks for your report, but...

4.2.1-12.1 ?

Where did you get this package? It is not part of any released Debian
distribution, and has been superseded in Debian unstable ("sid") for
months. Since about 27 October of last year, in fact.

  r638 | branden | 2003-10-08 23:18:14 -0500 (Wed, 08 Oct 2003) | 6 lines

Quote readlink subshell command in xbase-clients pre-installation script
so that the test command doesn't fail in the case where readlink returns
  nothing. (Closes: #214804)

Closing this bug as fixed in 4.2.1-13, a long time ago.
