Could you catch a backtrace with gdb after installing
xserver-xorg-core-dbg? The best is to attach gdb through ssh from
another machine with 'gdb -p $(pidof X)' and send us the output of 'bt
full' in gdb once

About a year ago, you reported a bug to the Debian BTS regarding a crash
of the X server when using xawtv. Did you reproduce this problem
recently? With Xorg/Etch? With latest xserver-xorg-core in unstable? If
not, I will close this bug in the next weeks.
