OK, I gave it a try. Looks like there's some progress, but it still

It looks to my untrained eye like it's not coming up with the proper

Could you try the latest xserver-xorg-video-intel package (2:2.0.0-5
currently in experimental) and report back whether it fixes your
problem? Support for your old i845 chipset have been greatly improved
since 2:2.0.0-1.
