I have been keeping a Delphi List archive for a while now. I have also
written listserver - written in Java.
Currently my system allows you to get a web based 'digest' of the last
month, last week, or todays list mail. I would add a search, but currently
I'm the only one using it...

I'm on several lists on yahoogroups, the largest of which maxed out around
400 posts per day, things kept up quite nicely, with message turnaround
less than 8 minutes, but there was been on occasion when messages either
turn up late, or out of order (yahoogroups does handle a lot of mail, and
I'm not advocating changing or not changing (not that
anyone would care) but I think the claim that posts to lists
in YahooGroups always have adverts appended to them isn't

I'm subscribed to several groups we use internally
and they don't have ads. There is a small TOS URL

Ads at the top of messages was done before Y! by egroups and only lasted a
few weeks. I have run a list on Y! for two years with 150 members. Firstly

Thanks for the reminder Mark,
I have also put the link on the sig line as suggested by Peter,

At the bottom was fine, but when they moved the adverts to the top of the
message it became annoying having to page scroll through the adds, hence
writing the procmail filter to get rid of them.

Yahoo Groups also offers a lag time so hideous it often takes 3-4 hours for
messages to show up (at times), they're also known for loosing posts now
and then.

Um - blocking viruses?
Is it a big issue? If an attachment comes through (like it did with this
particular one) the first thing that comes to mind is "I bet THAT'S a virus"
so I don't open it.
With the possibilities of viruses coming through email etc everyonne should
know NOT to open unknown a
But you can block all unsafe attachments in Outlook. And Y! just admitted
that their attachment checker can't detect UUencoded attachments.
