After doing `cat /dev/urandom` in a terminal window, and then stopping
the output with Ctrl+C, the text entered to the terminal AFTER those
actions and text printed gets compromised.
The following picture shows a terminal windows after these steps were taken:

When logged in hibernate works, starts up with a prompt w/ the ability
to switch users.
Suspend from gdm appears to do very little, monitor shuts off, HD light
flashes.
Hibernate gives an authentication failure.

As suggested, we can remove hibernate from gdm, but suspend seems to
function.
I can confirm the same issue on Edgy (gnome-terminal 2.15.4-0ubuntu1

Note that you shouldn't cat random stuff to the screen, eventually
you'll change the terminals charset. This happens whether in gnome-
terminal or in a virtual terminal
