Ah, very good then. I actually did it that way because my report seemed

This problem occurred for me because network-manager added a duplicate
"auto eth0" to the bottom of my /etc/network/interfaces file. After I
rebooted fine, I re-added the line and was able to get the error to
return...although it still seems a little slow... Maybe that's something
else.

The volume_id inside hal is a little different than the one from udev, it looks
for vfat/fat magics at offsets 3075 and 3154. You can check with
sudo dd if=/dev/sda5 bs=1 skip=3075 count=10 |od -c
and if it lists "MSWIN" you can for instance safely overwrite the M:

lshal still reports the garbage vfat label, also after reboot, and the
icon label is wrong. But if I restart dbus, the icon label becomes

The same happens while using the bar in totem and a mouse. Gxine plays
the movie well and says that it is OGG 480x352 ISO MPEG-4 (XviD,
ffmpeg). The problem does not appear with all of the movies I play, only

I have stopped giving extensions to flash files I
save. I just leave the extension off and Linux knows
how to handle it.

Got a notice about this crash in Gnome on Feisty, 14 Dec. 2006, immediately on
boot.
This is the first time I have seen this - have not yet attempted to reproduce
(but was prompted to submit by a pretty cool dialogue...)
Not sure how this might relate to released versions.

can someone comment on the state of this thread, particularly with
respect to ubuntu dapper? i can't seem to get dpms to kick in, no
matter what i do with gnome-screensaver or gnome-power-manager. what
makes this thread interesting to me is that the configuration involves a
laptop sitting closed

I was an Arch Linux user before. I cannot find anything in their build
scripts for the gstreamer base-plugins that would change the default
behaviour, so i just wonder why ubuntu is different here...?
