Not in terms of making the problem go away. :-) The problem persists in
Feisty, even with esd turned off.
But it is helpful to know what the problem is. In light of Luke's
explanation, the best solution seems to be to disable unnecessary sound
events and/or use a different software sythesizer.

I can't find the option to print on odd or even pages, either.
I installed both packages (evince and gnome-icon-theme) from yemu with sudo
dpkg -i *.deb . The new printing dialog appears but definitely no option like

That series of steps is precisely what I do. The only thing I can add
to that, is that for enter an IP to one of the entry I specifically
enter 127.0.0.1 to the socks host, and I also enter a port (12345) for
it. Use the same proxy for all protocols is left at the default of
unchecked.

I'm having a problem with ~/.profile and ~/.xprofile as well
A user's ~/.profile or ~/.xprofile can set aliases or modify paths and
affect further execution of Xsession.

If you folks out there with multi-head support enabled could offer up
some of your aspect ratios, it would be most helpful.
It's simply (2*x):y for two equivalent monitors side-by-side, e.g. two
4:3 monitors → 8:3.
