What about letting the user choose the one in the Preferred Applications
dialog? Actually in Removable Drives and Media Preferences it is now
possible to set up the application you like (however not in a very
userfriendly way).

I am marking this bug as rejected due to lack of response from the

Actually
1. select text from somewhere else and paste to Gedit works,
2. select text from Gedit and paste to somewhere else works,
4. select text from Gedit and paste it into another Gedit buffer does work,
3. but select text from Gedit and paste it into the same Gedit
