I maybe have found something in system-tools-backend which could explain
this weird bug.
system-tools-backends looks at the line number instead of the group name to see
if a group have been deleted/added/modified.
Just look at the set function in
/usr/share/system-tools-backends-2.0/scripts/User
The workaround of the second link did not work in my Gutsy. At login
screen I had a popup saying auth failed, this pop would keep opening all
the time on the top of the login, preventing me to actually enter the
password and login. Had to use a recovery boot and remove mods.

Here is all my laptop's relevant information (the rest to follow in
additional comments). I do not have any asound.conf files so those are
missing.

Unfortunately, I do still encounter this bug in Ubuntu Gutsy with either
p7zip or p7zip-full installed.

Uninstalling that package (along with gtk2-engines-gtk-qt, which depends
on it) got rid of the problem. There is a slight delay when the app
starts, though, but the thing works.

Evolution was working normally before upgrade to Ubuntu 7.10, is
extremely slow after upgrade with no changes in hardware.
Taking approximately 1 minute to get each message. (I get approximately

When I insert DVD ( /dev/scd0 ) Totem automatically starts and plays
first track of that DVD. In "Go" menu there is an item "DVD Menu" that is
enabled now.
