I noticed that the MimeType of xcf files is correctly detected by
nautilus, however, file detects application/octet-stream (which is a
synonym of unknown) instead of image/x-xcf. GNOME use MimeTypes to
identify files and GIMP registers the image/x-xcf MimeType in his
desktop file in /usr/share/appl

I think this is a gnome bug and not a GIMP bug.
The reason I say this is because of the error message "Could not find a
suitable application". So Gimp has not started at all yet, because gnome
doesn't know what to do with the file.
Please correct me if my understanding is incorrect.

Yesterday morning i updated my hardy heron and after reboot system did not
work. I found a bunch of problems arising.
1. During login screen it says one of the svg images from usr/share/
direcctory is corrupted and loads another log

2. Create a new file, then save it

Same problem for me. I was playing a WMV file with Windows Media 9 video
and Windows Media 8 Audio. The video was saved on an encfs volume on the
local disk, so it was using fuse (I see someone else was on fuse with
NTFS, so maybe that's a pattern?)

# chown root:root /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-smb-browse

There are some solutions to the problem. Dropping smooth scrolling (but not
smooth curved lines) is one of them. Dropping the fixed-position vertical lines
is another.

* Places -> Connect to server
* filled the information of my windows share, including the user name
* it asks the password, I type it

I can confirm this. I used to open image directories using Gthumb.
After upgrading to Hardy, I lost the list of applications to use with
right-click for opening a folder.
Even after choosing Gthumb from the list of possible applications, it is not
remembered in the list.

new gconf key has been added to the code, but not declared in the

I have an old Sony laptop with an Intel graphics chip, using the current Ubuntu

I can also confirm the "long sleep time" factor. As soon as my laptop
(hardy, fglrx from restricted modules) sleeps for more than a few hours,
the error message comes up - plus I cannot shut down from gpm anymore.

Just installed all the latest updates and can now see shares on a Win2K
machine on our network (that is NOT joined to the SBS2003 domain) but

for me. My config is a Hardy 8.04-release installed on a PNY USB Flash
Drive with a swap and root partition.
As a matter of correctness (but not really in the scope of this big),
should the device that holds the root partitio
and the weird part is, if I use the "brightness applet" to adjust the
display brightness, I can still manage to turn up the brightness all the
way.
