I have the same experience after upgrading from 8.04 to 8.10 .
It is impossible to shutdown the system through gnome, but it works with gdm.
I did recognize that behavior two times, after upgrading a fresh install
in virtualbox and on a normal computer.

F-spot import shows two instances of my camera, and selecting any of
them work. The list items differ only in added usb numbers. But it is

The reason I created a bug here is that I'm developing a patch to solve
the issue which will be initially available as a debdiff against the
Ubuntu package (and a custom package will be in my PPA).
I suspect it'll take upstream a long time to move on this but it is
quite an annoying usability issu

Here's a "me too".
/home is NFSv3 mounted and there's nothing obviously wrong with the
Launcher, but the Properties dialog closes after selecting the
"Launcher" tab. No sign of distress or any actual crash, it just
closes.
Happens on Hardy 8.04 with both old (6.06) and newly-created launchers.

I see this is fixed in Intrepid; what's the plan for fixing this in
Hardy? That's a (relatively new) LTS release and we're evaluating it as
an upgrade from 6.06, but if this isn't resolved it would require hand-
editing all desktop launchers in each user's profile, which would be a
hard sell.

I seem to have happened upon a "solution".
I added pci=routeirq to the grub boot options and I got my USB and
network performance back, and the GUI is actually *usable* while copying
files too

I'm getting this as well on Intrepid. I'm not sure how to use valgrind
in this situation, as I don't know the command to use to launch the
program (/usr/lib/gvfs/gvfs-fuse-daemon complains with 'fuse: missing
mountpoint'). In addition, most times on startup everything is fine;

cache. Then change the server to 'Main Server' and install brasero... Tell us
