Yes, the screen goes to white every time I try to use the slideshow so

I can confirm this, too. Since upgrading to Intrepid, the icons are not
scaled in the gnome-panel and in applications, they do scale correctly
in the panel menu though. I use only the icons, not the rest of the
theme.

Problem: Can't exit fullscreen mode in Aisleriot Solitaire (Ubuntu 8.10).
Just ran into this myself. Reloaded one of my systems with 8.10 and installed
all updates. After playing a few rounds of Solitaire for the first time since
the reload, I tried to exit full screen mode and could not.
In shorts:
- open volume control (right click on volume icon)
- open preferences windows (edit - preferences)
- select capture
(The recording tab appears in the volume control windows with the capture
control inside)
- close the volume control
- re-open the volume control

I just finished helping someone with this issue. It turned out to be
caused by an install of glib and gvfs in /usr/local . For everyone
having this problem, see if it still happens after 'sudo mv /usr/local
