This happened with the 2.6.27-11-generic kernel update on January 28th.
Since this update when the laptop boots the screen is dim (using the

Here is an updated valgrind run with gvfs, gphoto, etc rebuilt with
debugging symbols.
Once again I did the same things that crash it pretty quickly when not
running under valgrind.

Developers, please skip previous comments. I had originally attributed
the bug to Metacity, but I was wrong.
The description reflects my new understanding of the cause.
It could be GNOME Keyboard prefs or a general problem with X layout
options.

It turns out that if Alt-Shift is used to switch between keyboard
layouts (System->Preferences->Keyboard->Layouts->Other
Options...->Layout Switching, Alt+Shift change layout.), no other
shortcuts including Alt-Shift can be used.
I'll try to find the appropriate owner.

I can confirm this bug. It does occur intermittently - seemingly at
random on my desktop but never on my laptop.
Like the original poster's, my xsession-errors contains these warnings:

When I try to mount a folder on my storage device in Nautilus it does part of
the mount
On the left pane of Nautilus I see the folder I'm trying to mount but when I
try to open it it dissapears. I looked at the folder it should have mounted to
but it was not there, I did
