I can login. I hear the start up sound. Thunderbird and pidgin start(but
not xchat or other apps that should auto start) both applications are
missing the title bar and the minimize/close boxes. There is no
background wall paper, no icons. ctl+f2 does

Thanks for your response, I do want to help make Ubuntu better. So to
answer your question, I have tried ogg vorbis, ogg theora and an mp3
file.
The specific ogg files are the ones included as examples on Ubuntu
8.04.2. If you need an MP3 file, I can get you a test file. I have not
tried an AVI

I can't. Valgrind slows down my computer to the point where Rhythmbox

then type:
setxkbmap
(or restart nx)
The file /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/xorg is the file that was needed.
This could be fixed with a dependency in one of the nx packages.
