Yes it's reproducable. Insert a cd with mp3s on it, have audio preview
playing and hit the eject button. Same is probably true of flash drives
when being unmounted.

but in a different way. It happens when the power cable is unplugged
when my wireless card isn't turned on, when it's on, gnome-power-manager

Well, this is a bug in gnome-power-manager.
The /proc battery remains registered in hal all the time, but changes status
from present to not present.
it makes sense, since /proc file _is_ present anyway.
gpm detects, when it becomes not present, and changes icon accordantly.
But, the /sys
@hyperair, this does actually work, gpm works correctly when it is configured:
only display icon when charging or discharging.
Since when you pull the battery out it can't do nether, and gpm
understands it, it hides the icon. what gpm doesn't understand let me
repeat, is that it was removed.

very essential for a desktop distro since 10+ years ago.
If there are no gstreamer experts within Ubuntu, why not switch to xine
as it is clearly superior (8-xine vs 4-gstreamer, out of 10 of my
personal media playback needs

This is/was part of another bug that I was having regarding the same
problem. Problem is that gphoto/gvfs shouldn't be grabbing hold of the

I'm having the same problem on Ubuntu Jaunty.
I have an ecryptfs mounted on ~/Private . When I delete an encrypted file it is
moved in to the trash but it won't show up in Gnome Trash so it took me an hour
to figure it out when I wanted to recover it...
