I, too, had changed my mountdevusbfs.sh at one point (in fact, for the
same reason). However, I don't understand how you managed to fix it?
This problem is really bugging me. The "hack" you mention enables gnome-
terminal but for some reason my TTYs are still not active. I'm hoping to
get it fixed

Perhaps we could have one of those yellow message bars that some
applications use, to tell you you deleted a file and providing a
button to cancel it? It is less intrusive and still provides a clue
about what happened and a way to undo it.

recovery mode to uninstall alarm-clock, or a virtual console to kill

I have installed Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04 Beta desktop i386 on Intel dual core 2.33
GHz with an ATI graphics adapter and Dell monitors(19 inch and 20 inch).
Initially when I installed Ubuntu only one of the of the Dell monitor was
attached.

removed from 9.04, since right now it renders the user's desktop useless

This is definitely a bug and not a question. There is a setting
somewhere, apparently unexposed by the configuration interface, that
significantly changes the behaviour of the applicaiton. I'm sure users
aren't supposed to wipe out their profiles and start from scratch on

It seems to be specific to SD cards. With a usb stick, it simply
resumes as it suspended.
As it resumes, with a SD card in, it gives the message: "MMC: Killing
requests for dead queue." right before the GUI starts

I have seen my power consumption increase in 9.04 too, but this has only
happened in the last couple of weeks, I have been running it for a while
now and it was getting maybe 50% more battery life before.

thank you for your bug report, jaunty still uses gstreamer rather than
pulseaudio directly because pulseaudio doesn't work for everybody,
controlling the alsa mixer should work correctly and will not be changed
in jaunty, that bug will be automatically fixed when switched the GNOME
component to the
