When opening a file on an ftp server (with a password to log in). I get
irregular crashes when opening an xml file in gedit. I'm using up to
date, stock ubuntu jaunty 32-bit. The crash has been consistent across
reboots. Nothing custom or unusual

There seems to be mixed results on whether Alpha 6 has corrected the problem or
not.
There is a duplicate bug for this, whose thread states Alpha 6 has fixed the
problem, but for my system it does not seem to have been corrected.
Under Alpha 5 I had problems where I would be kicked back to the l
although i can't create a zip file within Nautilus through context menu
or by drag'n dropping a file into a file-roller window and selecting
zip, it worked following instructions concerning valgrind ("Start the
program under control of memcheck") !

Diagnostic mode might "work" but results in waiting through lots of
diagnostics on every cold start... so not crazy about that option.
FWIW, I've gone to Linux Mint for a while and I do not have this problem with
Mint. I believe the reason has something to do w/the fact that Mint loads a

installation. After installing that package I didn't get the 'No such
file or directory' error anymore.

Actually I'm trying to port it to DeviceKit-disks, but I'm facing some problem
recognizing whether a device is removable, it always tell me the drive is
internal.
I created a new branch to work on this (

Installed apps can become plentiful in some distributions. It would be
wise to allow highlighting of the menus for newly installed applications
in case you can't find your newly installed application in the menu
after instal
Bug 428115 is a fresh bug report dealing with this issue on Karmic and
I'd prefer to use that to track progress on the bug. Barring any
objections I'd like to set this back to Fix Released.
