When I select Contacts, Evolution closes immediately with no message or
warnings. It appears to be a problem with a single address book, as I
once managed (I don't know how) to start Contacts with a different one
and it operated correctly until I selected the one in question.
I was running the Karmic Beta LiveCD with noswap setup. I have 2 GB of
RAM.
I activated and installed the Nvidia video driver, which would be lost
on next reboot anyway. When I tried to close the Preference|Appearance
window I received the crash.

desktop remains (windows don't grow larger as they do if you're doing
panel hiding) but the panel itself is gone and the background image

Update - Synaptic Package Manager also failed to install
gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg due to file not found. I reloaded packages,
afterwards package manager was able to locate and install version
0.10.9-1. Rhythmbox now works fine. Problem appears to be related to

When rhythmbox changes songs after one ends, assuming the previous
displayed the art correctly, the artwork of the previous track remains
on the next track (from a different album with different artwork) and
may continue to the tracks played aft
As nick mentioned about compiz, I have tried:
apt-get remove --purge compiz*
and then reboot the machine and then I used gnome-display-properties, this
time it works! both 1280x1024 and 1024x768
so the problem must come from compiz.
So which process I should backtrace for you?

gpg spawns a background process to update the trustdb at some very
regular time. I suspect this may be what's going on. I noticed this
when using gpg through mutt in that mutt would wait a very long time
once in a while. I wonder if evolution is killing it? Robert, does
adding this to your .gnu

hehe ... :-) - ok, i got it - that flickering was just because of me
stupidly setting radeon.modeset=1 kernel option to have smooth
modesetting. (because otherwise i had some crashes when changing to text
console (which i ocassionally have to do to poke xorg so my bluetooth
mouse gets reconnected))
I just rebooted and forced a disk check (I did "touch /forcefsck"), and
the problem seems to have gone away.

I didn't know how to setup a guest session - so I created a new user,
and logged in as the new user. Attempting to view a PDF gave rise to a

Thanks, but this isn't the correct package. consolekit requires the user
to authenticate if there is more than one session open - this is the
intended behaviour and is not a bug. Could you please capture the output
of "ck-list-sessions" before shutting down, and post it here *if* you
are asked for

Just like the summary say, the screen does not shut-down on closing the lid.
It actually does for a second and turns back on. When I leave the netbook with
the lid open, the backlight turns off after a few minutes
