..update to my previous comment.
No amount of resetting defaults etc, seemed to work; I was able to work
around this problem and put my system back to a 'usable' state by
uninstalling compiz and reinstalling & enabling "Extra" effects from the
appearance applet.
Note, another behaviour I noticed
the description is not correct. it does not jump to the top but to the
folder, that is currently in view (or the most "further" parent
directory, thats still visible, if the current folder is no longer
viewable in the tree because its parent dir was collapsed... bit
complicated to explain sorry :)
Which package is it that you are referring to as needing to be installed
to avoid the problem?
It would appear then that there is a bug, that the correct package
dependencies are not in place to ensure a correct user experience.

I am able to reproduce this on a Lucid box using "sudo passwd root" to enable
the root account. I haven't heard that Ubuntu was going to allow root logins
through gdm even if the account is enabledf, so I believe this is a bug.

I checked multiple times if I entered the password correctly, it is
correct, also if it helps my password is over 10 characters long and in
all caps, I know in older versions of pidgin (gaim) this used to be a
problem with the MSN protocol resulting in the same problem as this,
please fix this :(

had Jaunty 9.04 w/ compiz and ATI driver (FGRLX) and used Eclipse no prob.
upgraded to Karmic 9.1 and experienced Eclipse issue noted by Andrew Scherpbier

Evolution can't read my IMAP folders. It tries for about 60 seconds and

The .desktop file can also be put into /etc/X11/sessions/ (you probably
have to create the directory first). That's a bit better than changing

I have the same problem with a doubled sound icon (one of two is a 'phantom'

Additional information…
This only occurs when geyes are placed on the top and bottom panels of
screen:0 and on screen :1.
When placed only on screen:0, it does not happen.
This behavior did not occur in 9.04.
