changed, but then goes back to its normal position and the playback goes

For me Simon's fix worked fine except for the icons, I had to use this
line to restore my icons, and I'm not at all sure why this is different
for me b/c we are all running Karmic here I would think but anyways...

Yep, I had changed that setting too. And after upgrading to 9.10, the
issue disappeared; and I didn't make my usual change of clickSelectsAll.
That must be it.
So the current temporary workaround for this bug: turn off
clickSelectsAll.

Same problem on my brand new USB LaCie LittleDisc 500GB. Cannot format

Could you also obtain an strace of Nautilus after it has spiked to 100%?
1 - Make sure strace is installed.
apt-get install strace
2 - Find the process ID of program:
pidof nautilus
3 - Start strace with the process ID:
strace -Ff -tt -p PID 21 | tee

I would expect Brasero to automaticly slow down the drive if the
resource is busy.
Guess the same could happen if reading from ext USB HDD or something
equal.
In my (worst) case I tried to burn form a Samba share on a NAS connected
by wifi.

Thanks - I'll leave it open and the importance as it is for now.
However, in the meantime, please enable Apport by editing
/etc/default/apport and restarting your machine. This will catch any
future crashes which you can submit then, although these crash reports
will be of limited use if the crash
seems to be an XMPP problem, so telepathy-gabble and report bugs to
http://bugs.freedesktop.org. Once you report the bug link i there.
