Thanks for doing all the research. I'm sorry for reporting a bug which
in the end seems to be just an configuration isue. However it confuses
me that manually mounting the share with lfs option also solves the

Using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, though the bug was also present, I think, in
9.10.
When typing a message, the basic editing commands one expects a text
entry box to have in the GTK+ environment do not work. For example,
Ctrl+C for copy, Ctrl+Z for undo.
Evolution crashes at random for me too. Sometimes when its sitting
idle, sometimes when I press New message button, sometimes when I press
Send button. Crashes aren't often, but often enough to be annoying.
I'll attach a backtrace from one crash when the computer was unattended.

Note to the core developers: since I hear there are plans for RGBA by
default in Maverick, this patch is worth looking at for another reason:
without it, xchat-gnome crashes if the old ("fake") transparency is
enabled in RGBA window mode.

I can confirm this bug in Firefox and Chrome.
I have run Firefox in safe mode to be sure the problem is not related with any
plugin.

I found out about this just yesterday. If a user is logged in on a
different terminal, they can kill a locked gnome-screensaver and have
free reign of the desktop.
Granted, leaving oneself logged in on multiple tty's is bad practice in

1) The problem reported yesterday happened onto a i386 computer. Today I
found again the same crash problem onto a AMD Sempron machine, running
the same up-to-date Lucid system.
2) No crash file was generated, nor running gnome-help inside GDB, nor
run
Work around: I could get the window manager to start by removing the
directory:
~/.config/gnome-session/saved-session/
See the .xseesion-errors file (attached to my post above) for two errors
related to files in this directory.
