Same problem here and it is related to menu cache file
(/usr/share/applications/desktop.${LANG}.cache).
When a new package is installed using dpkg, the latter calls /usr/share
/gnome-menus/update-gnome-menus-cache script which updates the cache
file and the menu item is displayed without problems.
I noted this in log, may be the issue is related to dropbox. I will run
tests without dropbox

the other the latest alphas. The applets in the stable version of Lucid
is normal while I'm experiencing the same issue on the one that began as
Alpha 1.

I tried to do reproduce this issue here running Ubuntu Lucid but works
fine for me (under similar conditions). This is that I did such as a
possible work around:
1) Create a new shorcut with name Capture Area and command
/usr/bin/gnome-screenshot --area
2) Then assign a shortcut to execute this f

Having the same problem as above, not at start up anymore but just
randomly the theme will revert back to some old style-less theme. When I
open Appearance from the menu it goes back to normal, but I have to kill
nautilus to get that back too.

i don't think that this bug is invalid. the option says solid color but
it does not give solid color. that is a bug. the fix is either to make
the option really do solid color, or to relabel to option to say "
Haven't seen any recurrence of the bug with the top Gnome panel, but the
divider between the "Show Desktop" button and the running task windows seems to
disappear now and again and turn white. Probably related to this bug if there
is a gnome-panel redrawing error.
Note: I have compiz running on
FWIW my ~/.config/gnome-session/saved-session folder is now completely
empty.
