Just to add my two cents: although this has been already mentioned in
comment 83 I'd like to add that to mute the "PC Beep", just select it
with the arrow keys and press 'm'. Simply setting the volume bars to 0
is *not* enough! This completely solved the issue for me in Lucid on a
Dell XPS M1530. (

I second the race condition, since the problem doesn't always appear.
Sometimes after booting (minority of cases), the user list is shown

However, the feature of autosetting that on the user behalf is also
merged now in evolution 2.31. I'm checking with upstream if the option

After some experimenting, I found the cause for the crash. It was an
extension script in .nautilus/python-extensions. After removing it and
restarting nautilus the crash does no longer happen. The script is
nautilus-print.py from http://www.florian-diesch.de/software/python-

I have the same problem with 10.04. It was working for me with 9.10, but
since I upgraded it no longer works. I get this with f-spot, nautilus,
etc, I have no way of getting the pictures off my camera (Coolpix S600).

replace gnome-terminal with xev? That is, give focus to an xev window
by clicking inside it (using accessibility keyboard-driven fake mouse).
