I no longer encountered it. Also I have since upgraded to Maverick so I
don't encounter the issue there either. I believe it was probably fixed
upstream.

Making the border thicker obviously has undesirable optical effects.
IMHO resizing of windows should always be comfortable and intuitive (Microsoft
can do it, can't Ubuntu/Gnome/Metacity??).
I think I may be seeing the same bug. I think the problem is that the time
control panel does not update the hardware clock after updating the
system clock.
Because the hardware clock is assumed to be in the local timezone,
the system clock gets initialized to the wrong value after the next
reboot

Sorry this seems to be a false alarm. I rebooted the PC and Disk
Utility correctly shows the format type as ext4. For what it is worth I
reformatted one of the drives from ext3 to ext4 using Disk Utility and
the other from the command line. They were both ext3 to start with.
