I have 2.32.0-0ubuntu2 gnome-settings-daemon and I have the same strange
behavior. I was able to trace the bug to the Keyboard applet for
changing the Keyboard layout. Currently, out of 4 GB I have 2.7 GB

This was a bug report for Karmic *alpha*, my attempt to be helpful a
year ago. My guess is it no longer has much of a chance to be so,
especially as *loads* of work has been done on the sound subsystem in

I considered your comments, and rewrote the patches. Even if it resulted
in a few more lines of code, I believe you will find that it makes
sense.
As regards language-selector, it now updates an LC_MESSAGES line in
~/.profile. Given that, it was possible to put the sedding/writing
