Thanks, I have been able to fix totem now by manually removing all totem
files and then reinstalling it. I don't remember installing a local
version but that would make sense why simply reinstalling totem didn't
solve my problem.

think it's related to the nVidia proprietary drivers: Even without those

@tekkenlord: on what system do you run inkscape? Do you have installed
the oxygen icon set, so do you have the folder 'usr/share/icons/oxygen'
with icons in it?
I guess the problem is, that gtk/qtcurve fallback works only with icon
sets installed in '/usr/share/icons/*' and do not look for icons
I do not have unity installed. And after a recent upgrade my gnome-
panels do not start-up. I have automatic login enabled, so I do not see
GDM. All I have is chromium browser (which I had on auto-startup) and
icons on my desktop. Gnome-launcher doesn't work and Ctrl+Alt+T doesn'†
start terminal

Sometimes the Brightness Keys do work as intended, and sometimes they do not.
I have not yet figured out why.
When the Brightness Keys work my dmesg | grep video only shows:

Binary package hint: file-roller
when I get a zip file from windows vista File Roller not recognize the
paths within. It extracts files with its long paths with the \ in
them, for example: estatico\style\main.css and it must be the main.css
file within the style directory

I agree there is a perfectly good use case for retaining the ability to open
folders with other applications, as with files.
For instance, I like to open movie or music folders (not necessarily as a
default action though) with totem, so that all

On my system, there’s a great number of messages from Gtk applications that
have extra newlines, making uniq unable to do its magic.
