It looks like gnome-power-manager is not used to handle suspend any
more. Indicator-session appears to directly lock the screen, kick off
the screen saver, and ask UPower to transition the system to sleep mode.
I can not see any dbus interface being exported by g-p-m to even ask it
to suspend, so

I think I understand this bug report. If you install rhythmbox in the
live session you instantly get a rhythmbox icon in the place of 'listen
to music' but if its not installed clicking 'listen to music' opens
firefox. affecting gnome-control-center for now might be some other
package responsible.

(don't really know which one solved it) the problem got solved.
