This has been happening consistently to a number of users (including
myself) in Natty. We aren't clear on reproducibility, but it looks like
all you have to do is have GDM log in automatically (so it doesn't
unlock the keyring early) and have a keyring with a password set. So, I
am marking this as

The reason it wants your password is to access the encrypted password
store. I've encountered a few people of the opinion that the user
interface is a tad unfortunate at the moment (there might even be a bug

It happens in unity as well, but not every time for me. Killing skype
and restarting it seems to fix it. I think the icon has been scaled down
to one pixel because that pixel acts like a the skype icon (ie you can
get a menu and show/hide skype using the pixel).

battery indicator goes perfect with or without plugging. Nonetheless

when I clicked on the volume button in movie player.

Scott, what systems do you mean? ubuntu-desktop & xubuntu-desktop depend
on desktop-file-utils and software-center. kubuntu-desktop does not.
I've contacted the Lubuntu community as this may affect them.
Any third-party derivatives ought to pay attention to the desktop-file-
utils package for chan

Just had another report from a user in virtualbox, so definitely this is
only happening now in virtualbox, maybe the vb's video drivers and the
xrandr part of the indicator patch raise some bug/special condition.
Still investigating...

gvfsd-ftp crashed with SIGSEGV when uploading file
Above fix would have to be tested on various hardware, including intel,
nvidia and ati graphic cards to make sure we don't get any regular boot
regression.
I'll do a quick test later today and prepare a similar .conf for
kdebase-workspace.
Then the two can go to -proposed for more testing before
