Also seeing this on Ubuntu 11.04 (32-bit, classic). Only workaround
I've found so far is to completely quit GIMP and restart it, which is
tedious to do everytime I want to edit a gradient.

Same problem here. Evince shows one available option only (one sided)
in the page config tab, "double sided" option. I'm now using the hp-
print command as a workarround.
