This bug looks like a bug that has previously occurred with PPA-provided GNOME3

I feel the forum link throws rather more heat than light on the problem.
It provides a workaround, but not a solution. The solution is to
correct the underlying problem.

Happened again, this time while typing a Gmail. I tried the
sync_to_vblank trick and that seems to reduce the number of freezes, but
it does not eliminate them.
Before it crashed, computer had been on for 24 hours, at various times
Suspended and under a blank screensaver.
