Reproducing the bug was easier than I expected. Just had to log out and

xsession-errors does show some gnome-settings-daemon errors when the bug

Thank you for your bug report, the dialog is an user one, it's supposed
to manager "users" and not "system accounts", uid under 500 are system
ones

Please verify is Evolution is marked to work online under the File menu.
You may also want to check that account settings use the correct server
name and port to retrieve email.
Since the issue described here is a connection and configuration issue
(as hinted by the "Connection timed out" message,
I'm running oneiric-proposed on my main laptop, so I'll verify that the
bug still exists when I get a chance. (Probably in the next day or
two.)

screensaver backlight stuck off, syst
This was likely a POP account, in which case it's normal for emails to
only be downloaded once if it's already marked as downloaded... Could
you please offer more information as to how your account is configured
(maybe a screenshot of the Receiving tab for the account settings),
and/or screenshots
I think I checked that when I had this problem. But because I actually
have to use my email on this computer, I had to remove evolution data
completely from my account and reconfigure it again. Now it works as
before the update.
