I'm not sure what LightDM issue you're referring to, but I do believe
similar issues with gnome-settings-daemon dying at any time will cause a
loss of the theme.
However I have tried to be careful to distinguish between different error codes
because there could be multiple bugs. In my case, if th
I figured it out. I went through and edited all the nautilus*.desktop
files and removed "--browser" from them. Now nautilus launches just
fine from both the Places menu and Cairo dock. But that isn't an ideal
solution for your average user. If the --browser option isn't going to
be used anymore
@vanvugt: So maybe this is the same issue that causes LightDM shutdown &
a11y dialogs to not use Ambiance theme?

Confirmed. Multiple xsession-errors log files showing the crash of
gnome-settings-daemon can be found in dupe bug 879793.
The common factor when the theme is lost seems to be this error:

I've uploaded gedit 3.2.3 to oneiric-proposed which fixes this. It's a
good SRU candidate because it comes free with some other fixes in 3.2.3
(like bug 863773) and it's a regression in functionality.

I've uploaded gedit 3.2.3 to oneiric-proposed. Will subscribe ubuntu-
sru. This is a good SRU candidate because it will crash gedit, causing
data loss if you haven't saved.
To reproduce, open gedit, enable the snippets plugin, and drag text from
some other window into gedit.
