Brightn
After further checking and testing, I've found that many existing gtk
themes are not updated for gtk 3.4.x.
I've now selected the Adwaita theme, and the problems on evolution,
gnome, etc where black text appears on black are gone. There also
appears to be a need to have a ~/.config/gtk-3.0/setting
Someone else also needs to verify this as well as the behavior with my
phone appears to be spotty.

When I plugged in my Samsung external monitor 1440x900 display. Changing
the resolution doesn't change anything. Only have clockwise or counter

This bug also affects 12.04 (x86 + x64) version of Ubuntu. I can't find the
authentication option as I did in Ubuntu 11.04, for example.
The dconf-editor workaround may work (modifying env var as well), but it's not
satisfying as everybody can read the password.

I can confirm this issue for Oneiric on x64. The top half of the
screenshot will still contain the shading box. It seems like allowing
for an extra delay of even 50 ms would solve this…

Actually the issue is the transcoding to mpeg. The reason seems that in
contrast to upstream, the mpeg2enc plugin and the ffenc_mpeg2video habe
the same rank secondary; encodebin seems to select the mpeg2enc plugin
then which causes the issue. Moving
/usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstmpeg2enc.so out of

control-center without the revert-gsettings patches, but that's not
supported by Ubuntu and will to some extent break using keyboard
