I use the ~/.gvfs directory as a way to access mounted systems for
access in editors, etc (i.e. Geany). It allows me to point the editor at
the host subdir within ~/.gvfs and easily browse/edit the files.
Since upgrading to 12.10 it keeps breaking.

I must defer to your judgement on this, however, I do think your code
is quite elegant, also clean and compact. (By the way did they make
some new rule that the code must also work ??? I may have been
napping.
Anyway as I feel your work is much more important than anything I am

The following got me back in...
1. At Grub2 Loader, Select Ubuntu (Recovery Mode).
...machine will begin the boot process.
2. From the Options presented select:
Root "Drop to root shell prompt"
3. you must first mount the file system as read/write with the following
commands:
# mount --options
Ignore the above comment. I got -symbolic and this one mixed up. I
think this was only a version change.

Hi,
This is happening but not at every login: I'm not yet able to trigger
the problem consistently, but last time it happened I restarted lightdm
to make unity work again and when I logged in the shortcuts were gone.
This is happening at least twice a week since I upgraded from Precise to
Quantal,

Thank you for taking the time to report this crash and helping to make
this software better. This particular crash has already been reported
and is a duplicate of bug #1047431, so is being marked as such.
I just tested my old oneiric install. gnome-settings-daemon starts
before compiz, yet oneiric is not affected by this issue, so the change
must have happened somewhere else.

After upgrading another desktop and comparing the lists of installed
packages, I was able to fix this by installing gnome-control-center-
signon. I'm not sure why this wasn't installed during the upgrade.
