The patch that Carrie posted (post #10 above) worked for me on Ubuntu
12.04. I'm a novice Linux user, so most anyone should be able to apply

After having played 6 games in a row that I had to kill due to UI locking up

I have found the solution after a bit of digging around.
For some reason, it is considering itself something other than
XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP - hence trying to invoke gnome-desktop-item-edit.
However, it is a command related to gnome-panel. So I changed the command to
exo-desktop-item-edit like thi

Which devices use "Flght mode" ? All the Android devices I own or use
have "Aeroplane mode", including the latest CM10.1 (JB4.2), for their
UK translation.
Is this actually a translation issue to be "fixed" or simply a change
to reduce the amount of vocabulary needing translation in other
devices?
This reminds me of what it was like trying to get bugs fixed in Ubuntu
pre-unity.
