I had the same issue. I use xbacklight to solve the issue.
Add xbacklight to your startup applications with the desired brightness
setting and problem worked around.

gvfsd-http stays connected (ESTABLISHED) for long periods of time after
I've used VLC to play streaming Youtube videos. This is the case even
after I've closed VLC. Plus when lsof finally stops reporting the
connection as "established" it will start reporting it as CLOSE_WAIT.
And it stays as CLOSE
This problem is caused by the fact that
a) there are definitions of eab_contact_display_get_type() in 3 libraries:
- /usr/lib/evolution/3.2/libecontacteditor.so.0
- /usr/lib/evolution/3.2/modules/libevolution-module-addressbook.so
- /usr/lib/evolution/3.2/plugins/liborg-gnome-vcard-inline.
Confirmed for both 12.04 and 12.10, ASRock N68-VS3 FX motherboard,
NVidia chipset.
When you click "Safely remove" on the launcher icon and then wait for
buffers to be flushed, device remounts. The remount is done as a USB
1.x device as the speed is very slow on transfer (about 1MiB / minute).

Tried doing it with changing locale again. After adding the accounts in
English locale, and returning back to Turkish locale, previously added
