I am having the exact same issue. 14.04 64 bits, ipod 2nd gen 32GB.
I open rhythmbox click on my ipod then it crashes.
I tried Banshee and the exact same thing happens.
So its probably some library used by both programs :)

Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 , 3.13.0-24-generic, same problem with catalyst and
radeon drivers
2 dvi monitors, on reboot position not saved and I have to manually run
"killall gnome-settings-daemon" , so the monitors position could be
applied.

in the screenshot i sent you, this is a zip with my documents folder
inside. its open as "read-only" and same issue with the name of files.
