Yeah, the problem was there: in gnome-terminal stty -a reports
-iutf8 by default, while on XTerm, UXTerm and LXTerminal it reports
iutf8 by default. Command stty iutf8 getting gnome-teminal back on
right way!
Sadly, I don't know why this situation

When viewing an image and trying to move to the next one, some file
(extensions?) are skipped, maybe because eog thinks they are not images,
even if they are and eog can even display them, e.g. Canon CR2 files.
If you have a folder with only cr2 files inside, you open one
I can reproduce this very easily:
-Open two documents in gedit
-Change both of them
-run a script (external tool) that is marked to save just the current document
Both documents will be saved.

I don't know if this in cairo, but it is old bug thats been there for a
year or more but was not properly reported.

Same issue with a btrfs partition, eg. mounted at ~/Videos with mount
options 'subvol=@videos'. If I delete a file it doesn't appear in the
Trash, but is moved to ~/Videos/.Trash-1000. This folder has to be
manually removed because 'Empty Trash' doesn't work.

Add more accounts says there are no providers ...
