Earlier, I had been able to use CTRL-L for Enter Location and it
worked. At some point I had pressed ESC to revert back to the button-
based paths.
Later on, with that same window open, I came back and tried CTRL-L and the path
didn't switch back to the textbox.

You probably want python2. Build just fine on ubuntu 15.04, it just has a
warning for a deprecated gnutls function, but you can ignore that with
--disable-Werror (or make a fix).

I have this issue on gedit 3.10.4 and ubuntu 15.04.. it is a little
ridiculous that gedit totally chokes on an 8mb file when I have 8Gb of
RAM on a modern computer.
