I tested on Ubuntu GNOME 16.04.1 with a .png. After I installed eog
3.18.2-1ubuntu2, eog correctly automatically refreshes the image when I
overwrote the image with gimp. It didn't refresh the image automatically
with the previous version of eog.

I found a workaround for .thunderbird. I put a character before the
dot, copied it into the home directory, then renamed it after the
transfer had completed the copy. No problem, as Thunderbird had never
been fired up, so I didin't need to rename/delete an existing directory.

Following a set of updates (attached) Saturday 20th I lost a working
desktop. Further to that recent dailies for Xubuntu and Mate both fail
to start a working desktop either by:
1 - booting Try option from the first menu
2 - booting Try option from the Try/Install dialogue

Never mind, the bug is referenced in lubuntu-meta, I will try to get
some attention on it via forums, etc. This is pretty nasty for anyone
who wants to use GStreamer apps in Lubuntu.
