Software app should show GNOME Shell
Unfortunately, systemd journal, /var/log/kern.log, and /var/log/syslog
are all log rotated so on long running systems, the initial boot logs
are lost.
Any chance we can reconsider the decision to stop writing out
/var/log/dmesg?

The current eog patch-work has a number of issues.
1. It only correctly works on Unity
2. on desktop-environments such as xubuntu, the menu does not hide when full
screen
3. on GNOME based desktops such as budgie-desktop and GNOME-Shell the
client-side decorations do not

If you need something besides .tar.xz, .zip and .7z, you can just use
Archive Manager which is currently still installed by default. I think
.tar.xz and .zip should work for most people and having a very large
list of file types to choose from
