The cause of this is the Polkit failure is reported back via snapd as a
general unauthorized failure. GNOME Software then attempts to do a snap
login which is the old method of gaining authorization.

This issue is occurring for me too with amdgpu. I experience the same
problem under both Xorg and Wayland sessions. This is only an issue with
my monitor connected via DisplayPort - when I connect via HDMI gnome-
shell does not crash if the monitor goes to sleep.

The failure to auto repeat happens in all terminal apps I've tried in
Artful. If I open a virtual console, it looks like a phantom is typing
^@ about once per second. This prevents successfully typing a password,
and is probably what is breaking autorepeat in the GUI terminals
@Rafael, after a dist-upgrade I could reproduce the issue. I believe the
issue is some regression in libpoppler-glib8.

Note: I'm flagging this as a bug in gnome-settings-daemon, but the
program itself is not buggy. It's rather the usage of this program
instead of unity-settings-daemon in ubuntu 17.10 that causes a system
regression.

@Rafael I couldn't reproduce this issue yet. I used a .pdf full of
images too, but works fine here: https://imgur.com/a/YyDZD . I'll do
some other test changing evince and poppler versions, but I'm still in
doubt if poppler can be cause.

@Leonidas, the PDF you attached works fine here. The PDF I was running
into problems with was the scan of a book, so it's all images.

Reboot to make sure you start the new gnome-shell. Please note that this
ppa does not contain a fix but it will make sure we collect more info in
